What Is A First Look?

While many traditions around weddings have changed over the years, a first look is a relatively new addition to wedding ceremonies. In fact, it's only been around since the 1990s!

A first look is unique because it allows you to experience that initial connection in private—giving you a chance to share those emotions without an audience. It intends to create a special memory between you and your fiance that will last the rest of your life. It can happen anywhere, but many couples prefer to do it in a private setting and not feel like they are on display during this moment of connection.

When Should You Do The First Look On Your Wedding Day?

Traditionally, a couple waits until they walk down the aisle to see each other for the first time. But now, couples are breaking with tradition in favor of a more intimate moment together—before all the fanfare and circumstance of a wedding ceremony kicks off.

You should set aside some time for the first look on your wedding day. This might be hours before the ceremony begins or just a few minutes before you walk down the aisle.  That is what makes this so fun and romantic, there are no “rules” on how to facilitate this.  Let your unique personalities show through.

What Are The Benefits Of Having A First Look?

It can help you stay calm, cool and collected. If you're nervous about walking down the aisle, seeing each other in private before the ceremony can help calm your nerves. You may even find that you're more relaxed throughout the rest of the day!  Remember this is about the two of you, no one else.

It's another chance for a photo op. The first look is an excellent opportunity for you to get more photos with each other and your important guests before everyone starts getting tired (and maybe even a little tipsy).

You may spend more time with your loved ones later in the day. With your formal photos done in advance, you won't need to worry about running behind at the reception because you were taking pictures during cocktail hour.  A lot of brides and grooms really value being a part of the cocktail hour, and this would be a great way to free up time while still getting the important photos.

You will be able to get your tears out of the way and still have time for a touch up. As we all know, weddings can be a very tense time for newlyweds. A few (or many) tears may well be shed throughout the ceremony. A pre-wedding first look may help calm nerves and ease your anxious excitement on the wedding day. After your first look shots, you'll have plenty of time to touch up your makeup before the wedding.

A first look makes it easy for you and your partner to spend more time together in the hours leading up to your ceremony and truly soak up every minute of this important day.

However, we recognize that not all couples are interested in doing a first look, which is why we don't require it. With that being said, if you are leaning towards having a first look, Wildflower 301 is an ideal venue and has an ideal location to share a passionate embrace, an excited laugh, or simply a moment of peace.

You will have the gorgeous mansion as your background and feel the intimacy and elegance at the same time. Also, our venue's secluded garden, called the Bourbon Garden, allows for an easy flow of taking glamorous outdoor photos surrounded by blooming hydrangeas, camellias, roses, and azaleas! Just stop and picture this for a moment.  It’s just you and your fiance in the middle of this stunning garden.  You can smell the beautiful aroma of the flowers, you hear your loved ones arriving in the distance, with nothing but the charming southern mansion overlooking the both of you as you embrace this moment with the one person you will spend the rest of your life with.  That moment is something you will carry with you throughout your journey together.

If elegant, charming or romantic are some of the words you would describe your ideal wedding with, then the Wildflower 301 located near Atlanta Georgia is the venue to make that a reality.  We invite you to come and experience this one of a kind venue for yourself.  Below you will be able to access our price sheet by simply entering your email.  Then one of our lovely event team members will be reaching out to schedule your private tour.
